Pak - Argentina Scientific Research Initiative

In order to achieve global excellence in teaching and research, the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, Karachi, Pakistan welcomes research collaboration with internationally renowned Institutions worldwide.

Recently, a 3-membered high level delegation of the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentine Republic visited the ICCBS on April 15th 2007.

During the meeting of two sides it was proposed that a joined web page will be developed for Argentinean Scientists and Institutions that will present a brief introduction of our Institute.

The main objective is to reach out to scientists in Argentina and to identify specific areas of mutual interests for future research collaboration.

The nature of the research proposals may be basic or applied, depending upon the interest of the research partners.

Our scientists at the ICCBS are working in the areas of Natural Product Chemistry, Protein Chemistry, Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine.

The scientists of ICCBS are world recognized through their contributions in the field of natural product chemistry, protein chemistry and bio-organic chemistry. A number of other areas such as pharmacology, plant biotechnology and molecular medicine have also been introduced.

This informal forum will allow the exchange of ideas at individual level which is expected to lead to a better understanding among the scientists of two countries translating into joint research proposals.

The short term and long term exchange of faculty members, research students and technicians is also a possibility.

We have research collaboration with the scientists of USA, Europe, and Africa but not with South America. Considering the contributions and tremendous potential of the scientists from Argentina in applied sciences e.g. in biotechnology, it is therefore important that we must take this task seriously.

Pakistan is culturally a rich nation with long history and diversity of ethnic groups. There are many interesting sites in Pakistan that is worth visiting, such as Indus Valley Civilization (Moenjodaro), Blind dolphins, Green turtles of indus, Thar desert, Salt mines (Khewra), Lahore Fort and Royal gardens and Masjid, Taxila museum and archeological sites (Ghandra civilization) and up in the North are the high mountains of Karakuram range with glaciers inhabiting Ibex and Yaks.

At ICCBS we have an excellent accommodation facility for foreign students and scholars.
