Plant Tissue Culture Technology deals with the mass production of plants, under aseptic environment employing artificial growing conditions in glass ( In-Vitro ).

This important technology is based on the principle that production of genetically modified plant is only possible if the target species have a successful and efficient regeneration system.
The success of modern Plant Biotechnology is attributed to this very important technique, which plays an important role in in-vitro propagation of disease free plants and multiplying with unmatched speed of endangered species as well as species of difficult to regenerate.
Dedicated team efforts made this section one of the largest producers of Orchids in Pakistan.
Currently, the section is working on the propagation of more than 16 varieties of orchids (A beautiful ornamental plant).

Production of Banana plants free from Banana Bunchy Top Virus (BBTV) is another major activity of the section.
Currently, this is the only lab in Pakistan, which is supplying micropropagated banana plants to all four provinces resulting in increased production of better quality produce.
Besides Orchids and Banana, micropropagation and acclimatization of Pineapples first time in Pakistan is one of the major achievements of the section.
Protocols for in-vitro propagation of Crotons, African violet, Ixoras, Date Palms, Anthuriums and many other exotic plants have also been developed here.

Research and development is the most active component of the section, which is working the key feature and principle of the proliferation and exploitation of Plant In-Vitro Technology. Research group is comprised of a motivated and dedicated group of students who are working very hard towards new perspectives in their particular fields.
